Halloween isn’t just for the kiddos. Yeah, they look all cute in their pirate and princess costumes, but we deserve a little treat, too. After all, we’re hauling them around the neighborhood carrying their candy overflow. We earned our treat.

This week’s #SundaySupper is all about Halloween. That means goulish treats, decadent sweets, more candy than we know what to do with…and cocktails?

Cocktails are a Halloween must. It wouldn’t be a proper Halloween without an adult beverage. Am I right? Honestly, after handing out candy to thousands of Tinkerbells and hundreds of zombies, I may need a cocktail to spice things up a bit.

This Halloween I’m serving up pitchers of wicked sangria, a mixture of red wine, blueberry vodka, and pomegranate blueberry juice. It looks like blood but tastes like berries.

Did you notice the missing swig from the wine bottle? Quality control. It’s good!

Do you think it would be okay if I filled my plastic pumpkin with this wicked sangria (adorned with a cute orange striped straw, of course) and cruised the streets? Eh, that would probably be frowned up. We’ll stick with the candy.

Here’s why I love sangria:

  1. You can make it ahead of time.
  2. No cocktail shaking required. Just pour and serve.
  3. It’s stupid easy to make. Throw all the ingredients in a pretty pitcher and stir.
  4. Drunk fruit makes for a great snack when your sangria glass is empty.
  5. It tastes like fruit punch.
  6. It’s a cheap way to serve a crowd.

I used Stoli blueberry vodka in this recipe. I find that Stoli has the best tasting blueberry vodka. It doesn’t have that artificial blueberry flavor that some of the other brands have. It tastes like you’re biting into a fresh summer blueberry. It’s a little more expensive but definitely worth the extra dough.

I absolutely love the flavor of this sangria. It’s fresh, tart, and sweet all at the same time. If you like your sangria on the sweet side, add a few tablespoons of simple syrup. I used blackberry Not So Simple Syrup to sweeten my pitcher of sangria.

Don’t you just love the gorgeous red hue? It reminds me of blood, which fits in perfectly with the Halloween theme.

Warning: You may want to go ahead and make a double batch. Trust me, it’s that good.
