I’ve recently realized my life has been missing out on a fundamental joy: more incredible sandwiches. Beyond the occasional burger, I rarely indulge in the simple pleasure of a soft roll overflowing with tender, flavorful meat. That realization led me to recreate one of my all-time favorite meaty sammies, the Cuban, with a little help from Smithfield and their incredibly convenient marinated pork tenderloin. This recipe isn’t just about making a sandwich; it’s about making a statement.

A Modern Twist on a Timeless Classic

A traditional Cuban sandwich is celebrated for its harmonious blend of roasted pork, cured ham, creamy Swiss cheese, tangy pickles, and zesty mustard. It’s a classic for a reason. However, I decided to respectfully ditch a bit of tradition to craft my own variation, one that I believe brings an even more exciting dynamic to the plate. I’m confident you’ll agree once you take that first bite.

My unique take on the Cuban slider features a soft, lightly toasted sesame seed slider roll as its foundation. Each roll is generously topped with thick, juicy slices of roasted pork that have been marinated to perfection, ensuring every morsel is packed with flavor. We then add freshly grated Swiss cheese, which gracefully melts into the warm pork, creating an irresistible ooey-gooey layer. For that essential tangy crunch, we opt for sweet and savory bread and butter pickles. The true game-changer, however, is the rich, complex mustard-bourbon reduction glaze. This combination elevates the humble slider into something truly extraordinary.

Doesn’t that sound absolutely incredible? Trust me, it tastes even better. The interplay of textures and flavors – the tender pork, the melting cheese, the crisp pickles, and the sweet-savory glaze – creates a truly unforgettable experience. It’s a symphony for your senses, designed to satisfy the most discerning palate.

The Secret to Effortless Flavor: Smithfield Marinated Pork Tenderloin

The star of these incredible Cuban Pork Sliders is undoubtedly the pork, and for this recipe, I turned to Smithfield’s slow-marinated Golden Rotisserie Flavor Pork Tenderloin. This product is a true kitchen hero, designed for convenience without compromising on taste. It comes pre-marinated, meaning all the hard work of infusing flavor has already been done for you. Simply remove it from the package, place it on a baking sheet, and roast it at 400 degrees F for approximately 30 minutes. That’s it! No complex prep work, no messy marinades to mix, just pure, delicious pork ready in under an hour. This efficiency makes it an ideal choice for busy weeknights or when you need a quick yet impressive dish for entertaining.

Crafting the Signature Mustard-Bourbon Glaze

While your flavorful pork tenderloin is roasting in the oven, it’s the perfect time to prepare the show-stopping mustard-bourbon glaze. If you appreciate the rich, nuanced notes of bourbon, you are absolutely going to adore this glaze. The magic happens as the bourbon slowly reduces, concentrating its deep, oaky flavors and transforming into a rich, bold, and incredibly aromatic sauce. This reduction process intensifies the sweetness and adds an unparalleled depth to the glaze, making it truly special.

The glaze itself is surprisingly simple, requiring only three key ingredients: bourbon, spicy brown mustard, and brown sugar. The bourbon provides a warm, complex base, while the spicy brown mustard adds a pleasant tang and a subtle kick. Brown sugar balances everything with its deep, caramel-like sweetness. The result is a glaze that is wonderfully sweet, slightly zippy, and perfectly complements the savory pork and tangy pickles. It’s a condiment that transforms a good slider into an extraordinary one.

Assembling Your Flavor-Packed Sliders

Once your pork tenderloin is perfectly roasted and rested, it’s time for the final assembly. Slice the tenderloin into thick, succulent pieces – approximately 1/4-inch ensures a hearty bite. Arrange these generous slices onto your slider rolls. Next, add a sprinkle of freshly grated Swiss cheese, letting its creamy texture soften and melt against the warm pork. Crown each slider with two crisp bread and butter pickles for that essential crunch and tangy counterpoint. Finally, give each mini sandwich a lavish drizzle of that incredible mustard-bourbon glaze. The visual appeal alone is enough to get mouths watering, but the taste? Pure bliss.

Ready. Set. Eat! These sliders are designed to be devoured and enjoyed.

Cuban Sliders with Mustard-Bourbon Glaze

These flavor-packed Cuban Pork Sliders feature thick slices of succulent pork tenderloin, perfectly roasted, then piled high on soft slider rolls. Topped with melted Swiss cheese, sweet bread and butter pickles, and finished with a sensational homemade mustard-bourbon glaze, these mini sandwiches are ideal for entertaining, game days, or a quick, delicious weeknight meal. Ready in just 35 minutes!

Yield: 8 sliders

Total Time: 35 minutes

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

For the Sliders:

  • 1 (1.5 pound) Smithfield marinated pork tenderloin (Golden Rotisserie Flavor recommended)
  • 8 slider rolls (or 4 regular-size rolls, cut in half for sliders)
  • 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese (freshly grated for best melt)
  • 16 bread and butter pickles (thinly sliced)
  • Mustard-Bourbon Glaze (recipe below)

For the Mustard-Bourbon Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup bourbon (your favorite brand)
  • 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

Directions:

For the Sliders:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Carefully remove the Smithfield marinated pork tenderloin from its packaging and place it directly onto the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the pork reaches 150 degrees F (65 degrees C) when measured with a meat thermometer.
  4. Once cooked, remove the tenderloin from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes. This crucial step helps the juices redistribute, ensuring a more tender and flavorful result. Then, slice the pork into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
  5. To assemble each slider, layer 2-3 slices of the roasted pork onto the bottom half of a slider roll. Add a generous pinch of grated Swiss cheese on top of the warm pork, followed by two bread and butter pickle slices.
  6. Drizzle each assembled sandwich with a liberal amount of the prepared Mustard-Bourbon Glaze. Place the top bun on each slider and serve immediately.

For the Mustard-Bourbon Glaze:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the bourbon, spicy brown mustard, and brown sugar. Stir well until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reduces by about half and thickens slightly to a syrupy consistency, which typically takes about 7-8 minutes. Be careful not to over-reduce, as it will thicken further as it cools.
