There’s something inherently magical about sangria. For me, it’s the ultimate go-to cocktail, whether I’m hosting a bustling crowd, planning an intimate ladies’ night, or simply enjoying a relaxing evening at home with my family. Its universal appeal makes it a beloved choice for countless reasons, solidifying its place as a perennial favorite.

First and foremost, sangria offers unparalleled convenience. It’s a pitcher-perfect drink, allowing you to prepare a large batch in advance and let guests serve themselves throughout the evening. This frees you from the constant task of bartending, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the celebration and enjoy the company of your guests. Secondly, the flavor possibilities are truly boundless. Sangria is a canvas for culinary creativity; you can experiment with an endless array of fruits, wines, and liqueurs to craft a unique blend that perfectly suits your taste or the season. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, sangria is unequivocally refreshing, bursting with fruity goodness, and utterly delicious. It often tastes like a sophisticated fruit punch, making it irresistibly enjoyable even for those who might not typically favor wine-based cocktails.

When it comes to selecting the perfect wine for sangria, Gallo Family Vineyards offers an exceptional range of white, red, and rosé wines that are sure to elevate your sangria from delightful to truly unforgettable. Their commitment to quality and diverse offerings ensures there’s a perfect base for any sangria creation, guaranteeing it will be a resounding hit with everyone who tastes it.

My choice of sangria base often shifts with the seasons. During the crisp, colder months, I gravitate towards a rich, sweet red blend to create a cozy and comforting sangria. However, as soon as the weather begins to warm and the days grow longer, my palate craves something lighter and more effervescent. That’s when I turn to a crisp white or, for a truly festive touch, a sweet, sparkling red wine. The change in seasons naturally inspires a desire for brighter, more refreshing flavor profiles.

Just the other day, my mom and I were eagerly discussing our anticipation for warmer weather. We envisioned ourselves sitting on the deck, soaking up the sunshine, and sipping vibrant, fruity sangria from rustic mason jars adorned with colorful straws. For me, sangria transcends being merely a delicious cocktail; it’s a vessel for cherished memories. This delightful, fruity concoction instantly transports me back to countless hours spent with my mother and grandmother, chatting about everything and anything under the sun, creating bonds that run as deep as the flavors in the pitcher.

Delicious Summer Berry Moscato Sangria ready to serve

This week, we’re celebrating the joyous occasion of Moscato Day alongside Gallo Family Vineyards! Given that the weather still carries a hint of chill, I opted for their wonderfully warm and fruit-forward Red Moscato for this recipe. This particular blend boasts exquisite notes of sweet citrus, juicy peach, and succulent red berries, creating a harmonious foundation. These flavors perfectly complement the natural sweetness and tartness of our fresh berry medley, which includes plump strawberries, vibrant blueberries, and rich blackberries, resulting in a truly cohesive and indulgent taste experience.

Should you be seeking a slightly lighter or different flavor profile for your sangria, Gallo Family Vineyards also offers their delightful Pink and White Moscato blends. Their Pink Moscato is a light, beautifully effervescent wine, brimming with delicate hints of peach and ripe berries – a truly refreshing choice. Alternatively, their White Moscato is crisp and wonderfully fruity, featuring subtle notes of honey and invigorating citrus. Honestly, all three of these exceptional Moscato varieties would create a fantastic base for this berry sangria recipe, offering subtle variations in flavor that cater to individual preferences. The choice is entirely yours, ensuring a personalized and perfect pitcher every time.

My enthusiasm for sangria is genuinely profound; it’s a passion that shines through in my recipe collection, where nearly half of my cocktail index is dedicated to this versatile drink. From the unique “Sangrita” to the rich “Black Cherry Sangria,” the tropical “Fruity Pineapple Sangria,” and many more, I am constantly exploring and dreaming up new and exciting flavor combinations. This constant experimentation ensures that my sangria recipes are always fresh, innovative, and perfectly suited to any occasion or palate.

This particular Summer Berry Moscato Sangria is a celebration of peak summer flavors. It’s generously loaded with an abundance of fresh strawberries, blueberries, succulent raspberries, and plump blackberries. To elevate the berry essence and provide a rich depth of flavor, I’ve incorporated a thoughtful combination of Framboise (raspberry liqueur) and a quality blueberry vodka. This carefully balanced blend achieves the perfect harmony: it’s wonderfully fruity, delightfully boozy, and just the right amount of sweet, making it an irresistible treat for any warm weather gathering.

Summer Berry Moscato Sangria Recipe

This vibrant Summer Berry Moscato Sangria is an effortlessly delicious blend of fruity Moscato wine, aromatic Framboise, a touch of blueberry vodka, and a generous medley of fresh, seasonal berries. Perfect for summer entertaining, it’s a truly refreshing and shareable cocktail.

Yield: 1 large pitcher (serves 6-8)

Total Time: 2 hours 5 minutes

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Chill Time: 2 hours

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 (750ml) bottle Red Moscato, such as Gallo Family Vineyards (chilled)
  • 1/2 cup Framboise (raspberry liqueur)
  • 1/2 cup blueberry vodka
  • 3 cups mixed summer berries, fresh or frozen (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
  • 2 cups club soda, chilled (or sparkling water)

Directions:

  1. Gently place the mixed berries at the bottom of a large pitcher.
  2. Pour in the chilled Moscato, Framboise, and blueberry vodka. Stir thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully and the berries to infuse the liquid. For best results, chill for up to 4 hours.
  4. Just before serving, top the sangria with chilled club soda (or sparkling water) to add a refreshing fizz.
  5. Serve the Summer Berry Moscato Sangria over ice in individual glasses, garnished with extra fresh berries if desired.

Notes and Tips for Success:

  1. If Framboise is difficult to find, you can easily substitute it with Chambord (another raspberry liqueur) or simply use an additional 1/2 cup of blueberry vodka for an intensified berry flavor.
  2. While this recipe calls for a specific blend of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, feel free to use any combination of your favorite mixed berries. Fresh berries are ideal, but frozen berries work perfectly and can even help keep the sangria cold without diluting it.
  3. Adjust the amount of club soda to your preference. Add more for a lighter, less sweet sangria, or less if you prefer a richer, sweeter beverage. You can also use ginger ale or lemon-lime soda for an extra layer of sweetness and flavor.
  4. For an even deeper flavor, prepare the sangria the night before (without the club soda) and let it chill in the refrigerator overnight. Add the club soda just before serving.
