This adaptability underscores the salad’s incredible appeal – it’s a dish that truly pleases, no matter the occasion.

The Magic of Avocado Ranch Dressing
The heart and soul of this outstanding salad undoubtedly lie in its exquisite Avocado Ranch Dressing. This isn’t just any ranch dressing; it’s a thoughtful, vibrant twist on a beloved classic. Inspired by a traditional buttermilk ranch, this version incorporates a large, ripe avocado, which lends an incredible creaminess, a beautiful pale green hue, and a host of nutritional benefits. By using slightly less mayonnaise and embracing the avocado’s natural richness, the dressing becomes significantly healthier, packing a punch of fiber, essential folic acid, and beneficial healthy fats. Each spoonful is a velvety blend of fresh herbs – bright parsley, aromatic dill, pungent scallions, and sharp garlic – all coming together to create a deeply flavorful profile that absolutely does not disappoint. A splash of buttermilk is essential here, not only to achieve the perfect pourable consistency but also to introduce a delightful tang that brightens every other flavor in the dressing. This dressing is so good, you’ll want to put it on everything, and it perfectly complements the smoky, sweet, and crisp elements of the BLT salad, making it truly unforgettable.
Tips for Perfect Grilled Corn
Grilled corn adds a wonderfully smoky sweetness and delightful texture to this BLT salad, transforming it from good to extraordinary. To achieve perfectly grilled corn kernels, start with fresh corn on the cob. You can grill the corn directly on the cob, either husked or unhusked, until the kernels are tender and slightly charred. If grilling unhusked, soak the cobs in water for 15-20 minutes beforehand to prevent the husks from burning too quickly and to steam the corn inside. Once grilled, let it cool slightly, then carefully slice the kernels off the cob using a sharp knife. This process brings out the corn’s natural sugars and adds an irresistible depth of flavor that contrasts beautifully with the other salad components. If grilling isn’t an option, you can roast corn in the oven or even use high-quality frozen or canned corn, quickly sautéed or broiled for a hint of caramelization, though fresh grilled corn truly offers the best flavor.

- ½ small red onion, thinly sliced

- 1 clove garlic, roughly chopped
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- ⅔ cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ¼ cup fresh parsley
- ¼ cup fresh dill
- 1 scallion, roughly chopped
- ½ teaspoon Beau Monde seasoning, by Spice Islands
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
-
To make the dressing, add everything to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. The dressing will stay fresh in the fridge for 1 week.
-
To assemble the salad, add all of the ingredients to a large bowl; toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
Notes
- If you’re prepping the salad ahead of time, don’t add the avocado until the day you’re ready to serve. This prevents browning and keeps it looking fresh.
- If you’re unable to locate Beau Monde seasoning, substitute seasoned salt, starting with 1/4 teaspoon and adding more to taste.
- The recipe doesn’t call for cheese, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add any! Blue cheese crumbles or freshly grated Parmesan cheese would be absolutely delicious additions, enhancing the savory profile.
